Получение изделий гл. образом из базальта, реже из диабаза и др. горных пород переплавкой их при 1350—1450 °С и заливкой в формы. К. л. применяют при изготовлении труб, кислотоупорной аппаратуры, электрич. изоляторов, брусчатки для мостовых, облицовочных плиток, скульптурно-художеств. изделий и др.
Технология к. л. использ. при отливке изделий из металлургич. шлака, получающей все более широкое распространение в последние годы. Из шлака методом литья изготовляют фундамент, блоки, плиты, защитные футеровки полых металлич. конструкций (циклонов, желобов, труб и т.п.), использ. в металлургич., химич. и др. отраслях. Шлаковое л. выдерживает рабочие темп-ры до 800 °С, обладает практич. нулевой пористостью, пыле- и влагопроницаемостью, выс. химич. и корроз. стойкостью, хорошо противостоит газоабразивному износу.
